Hot Stuff

When I was growing up, my parents worked a lot. They both had demanding jobs, had a large house, lots of land to keep up with, huge gardens, and four kids. My parents are the type of people that don't pay others to do things, or fix things for them. They are always busy and very hard-working. I was thinking the other day about our morning routine before school. Mom would wake us up, we'd try to sneak in every last minute of sleep, we'd rush around to get dressed, and then run upstairs to eat. My parents ALWAYS had hot cereal on the stove waiting for us. No matter how busy they were. Some of our favorites were Red River Cereal, Malt-O-Meal with cocoa in it, or Cream of Wheat. I'm not sure why I just realized this now, some 20+ years later. Maybe because I consider myself very blessed to stay at home with our children? Do my kids even know that there are other hot cereals out there besides oatmeal? Why am I not getting up early enough to make a hot breakfast for our daughter? There are about 15 days of school left. Is it too late for me to start? It's never to late to start a good habit.

I love this Kathi - I have been thinking the same thing too - My mom did so much more with me than I do with Kensey, I would love her to look back and remember when Mom did this and Dad used to do this... instead of remember when Mom used to sleep in while I made myself cold cereal? lol
